Spiti Left Bank Trek

One of the most beautiful treks in Spiti valley which takes you through some of the highest villages in the world, most scenic views of valley surrounded with snow covered peaks and life at such high altitude which stays disconnected from the world for half the year in winters. This trek starts from the beautiful village of Dhankar, and takes you through Lahlung, Demul, Hikkim, Komic, and ends in Langza. This trek will disconnect you from the rest of the world and help you explore the nomadic side of you.

Daywise Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Chandigarh to Narkanda | 180 kms | 6-7 hours

    Set off after an early breakfast for a drive to charming Narkanda, a world away from the maddening crowds of Shimla. Higher reaches, plentiful summer sunshine or vibrant white winters in abundant apple orchards. Stunningly beautiful, Narkanda offers superb angling and winter sports as well. ‘The’ skiing destination of the district, Narkanda attracts a considerable number of tourists in winter as well.

    Head out for a peaceful evening stroll before you spend the night here in this pleasant mountain town.

  • Day 2

    Narkanda to Kalpa via Hatu Peak | 160 kms | 7-8 hours

    Start your morning with a early morning hike to Hatu peak. This is an acclimatization hike to losen those tight muscles and you prepare you for main trek. After a 2-3 hours hike, return to Narkanda.

    Begin the scenic drive to Kalpa after breakfast. Kinnaur district’s finest, Kalpa is a stunning little valley town surrounded by snowy peaks of the Kailash range. Watch the sun go down beyond the Himalayas before you hit the sack early enough to catch the next day’s sunrise.

  • Day 3

    Kalpa to Tabo via Khab, Nako and Gue | 170 kms | 7-8 hours

    Wake up for the spectacular sunrise and early breakfast before setting off to Tabo.

    Lush greenery fades off into patches of barren desert as you head to Nako.Visit the lake at Nako as it mirrors giant peaks around. After lunch and little walk about, carry on to Tabo.

    Gently fluttering prayer flags against a backdrop of green farmland (in summer), surrounded by barren mountains and clear blue skies, mark the entrance to Tabo. Over 1000 years old, Tabo Monastery is now a UNESCO Heritage site and one of the finest marvels of Indo-Tibetian art. Temple complexes of sturdy mud walls mark the uniqueness of Tabo Monastery complete with impressive murals inside. A short hike to Tabo caves is a must for the aura of peace that surrounds these meditation grounds as well.

  • Day 4

    Tabo to Lahlung via Pin Valley and Dhankar - hike to Dhankar Lake (4140 mtrs)

    3-4 hrs + 45 mins one way hike

    After spending some time in Tabo, we drive to Dhankar. By afternoon, start hiking towards Dhankar Lake. 45 mins to an hour hike will give you some of the most beautiful views of Dhankar, and the Spiti valley. The Lake is considered sacred, and you’re not supposed to camp around it. After spending some time at the holy lake, head back to Dhankar for the night stay. Today’s hike will also serve as a warm-up for the next three days.

  • Day 5

    Lahlung to Demul trek via Rama | 4-5 hrs trek

    This day will call for some steep hike in the beginning and then gradual descend towards Lahlung. This village of Lahlung is also home to a 1000 yr old monastery, known as the Sherkhang Monastery. Some people say that this monastery is as old as the Tabo Monastery.

  • Day 6

    Demul to Komic trek (crossing Demul Pass at 4770 mtrs) | 4-5 hrs trek

    Take the morning easy with the local family and have a nice breakfast. Today’s hike is going to be a tough one, as be climb towards Demul. The initial part of the trek is a steep incline, and graduall eases out as we reach Demul for our night stay. Reach Demul and visit the farm lands of locals. Stay in Demul in a homestay (4-5 hours). We will stop and spend some time at Rama village on our way.

  • Day 7

    Komic to Langza (4300 mtrs) via Hikkim (4400 mtrs) trek. Langza to Kaza by car

    3-4 hrs trek  and 1-2 hrs by car

    This day we shall keep it easy. Start your final leg of the trek from Komic to Langza. Spend some time at Hikkim and meet the post master of Hikkim. Also, post some postcards from here to your loved one. Finally, reach Langza, as we end our trek by the famous sitting Buddha statue, overlooking the gorgeous Langza village and valley.

    Finally, we drive onwards to Kaza, where we indulge ourselves in a special local lunch. Rest in the evening.

  • Day 8

    Kaza to Key (4166 mtrs), Khibber (4270 mtrs), Chicham bridge (4144 mtrs) and back

  • Day 9

    Kaza to Manali via Kunzum Pass (4551 mtrs), Chandrataal Lake (4250 mtrs) and Atal Tunnel

    160 kms | 9-10 hours

    Early morning, we drive to Chandra Tal- The lake of the moon via Lohsar village and Kunzum Pass. The drive on this day will be one of the highlights of the trip. Have a cup of tea at the last village of Spiti valley- Lohsar. After this you will just get closer to the high mountains and all you will see is snow-capped peaks from Kunzum Pass and beyond. The hike to Chandra Tal lake is 20 mins from the barricade. The lake is a mesmerizing sight that will leave you speechless for sure. We don’t have words to describe it. Later, drive to Manali via the Atal tunnel.

  • Day 10

    Manali to Chandigarh drop | 300 kms/ 8-10 hours

    Leave early in the morning to catch your evening flight from Chandigarh back to your hometown.
