Daywise Itinerary
The transformation of the landscape is quite interesting while on a trip to Corbett. Cities give way to sub-urban landscape with a few villages in between. A long string of hotels lets you know that you have entered Corbett. Drive past that and you are in lap of the vast spread of the Corbett National Park. Though named after the legendary hunter turned conservationist Jim Corbett, strangely enough only one of the maneater tigers he shot, the Mohan Maneater, was from these forests. Blessed with gorgeous landscape including forests, rivers and hills outside the park, Corbett as a destination today is far bigger than the national park itself.
Morning safari
The thick forests and the grasslands provide an excellent opportunity for wildlife sightings. Jhirna is an excellent sight for birding as the topography is well suited for these winged creatures. Jhirna is one of the two zones that remain open for tourists throughout the year. The morning and evening safaris take you for 3 hour long drives through the beautiful zone of Jhirna. Depending on the area of your stay and availability, your safari will be booked in one of the zones from Bijrani or Jhirna of the Corbett National Park.
Apart than the big cat, elephants, spotted deer, barking deer, sambar deer, wild boar, yellow-throated martens and leopards, are some of the animals that can be spotted here.
Breakfast and lunch at the hotel
Evening safari
Bijrani is one of the safari zones in Corbett National Park where you have a relatively higher chance of spotting a tiger. Bijrani has been home for some years now to the most well known tiger of Corbett, the 'supermom' Sharmili. Apart than the big cat, elephants, spotted deer, barking deer, sambar deer, wild boar, yellow-throated martens and leopards, are some of the animals that can be spotted here. Though overall not the best zone for birding, you can often see both Great Hornbills as well as Oriental Pied Hornbills here.
Check-out after breakfast
It's time to say goodbye to the forests of Corbett as you make your way back. The call of the wild will endure in your mind long after you're gone.
