Untamed Kenya

The lakes in Kenya attracts some of the most stunning birds and along with it, a host of other wildlife. A boat ride along the lake will give you a chance to spot wildlife from close up. The grassland of Maasai Mara is the perfect place to spot the big five. Dinner under the stars and in the warm light of the flickering candles, your nights in Kenyan parks are nothing short of magical. You are never too far away from wildlife even while in the lodges in Kenya. In the dark of the night, a herd of elephants is probably converging to a waterhole in the vicinity of the lodge.

Check in to your hotel, have lunch and set off on a game drive through the savannah, rolling grasslands, and forests around the Mara River. Look out for Africa’s ‘big five’ here – the African elephant, lion, Cape buffalo, rhinoceros and leopard. You won’t miss the numerous cheetah, hyena, giraffe, hippo and jackals here as well as the world’s largest, Maasai ostrich.

Sunsets in the Maasai Mara are a spectacle. The fading lights bounces off the plains and the open areas with little room to hide makes for wonderful wildlife photography. Check into the lodge for a welcome rest overnight.

Stop over at the Hippo Pool on the way to the great Northern Serengeti Ecosystem, bordering Tanzania. Originally formed by volcanic activity, here’s where the annual wildebeest migration actually happens.

The Great Migration is the greatest wildlife show on earth. Watching the migration (now the seventh wonder of the world) literally has you holding your breath as you see black masses rushing forward at great speed, grunting and shoving. This is when you’re glad Simba stayed in the movies.

Maasai Mara is abundant with a big variety of plains game and birds – not to forget the stunning landscape consisting primarily grassland and revering forest with clumps of the distinctive Acacia trees.

Post lunch, rest for a while before you are taken for a lovely afternoon safari. The dying sun casts a lovely golden over the plains of Maasai Mara. A lot more game to be seen before you head back to your camp.
